Robot Controller Communication Interface

This article describes a communication interface between a host and a robot controller which allows the host access to the robot via unbuffered communications with minimal impact to robot motion. The hardware interface utilized for the software technique disclosed herein comprises combined communications adapters with automatic recognition in the controller of the interface type being used. The controller-host connection can be either via modem or a modemless attachment. A hardware and software interface between a host computer and a robotic controller is disclosed herein. Its purpose is to provide a communications path for data and control exchange between the computer and the controller.
