Abstract

The magnetic head and the tape drive parts in the tape path can be cleaned by providing a cleaner fabric in a cartridge as a replacement for the magnetic tape cartridge. The cleaner cartridge is provided with the leader block for connection to the drive threading device. The cartridge can be provided with two reels, even though the standard cartridge is a single-reel cartridge. Unused cleaner fabric is stored on a supply reel in the cartridge, and the used fabric is stored on a take-up reel. As shown in the figure, a cartridge 1 is loaded into a tape drive 2 for cleaning the various parts of the tape drive in the tape path, such as guide rollers 3, tape guides 4 and 5, and magnetic head 6.
