Abstract

One of the types of tables supported by a real-time multiple data editor is a spreadsheet. Spreadsheets are used to model information relationships based on calculations. The spreadsheet consists of a rectangular pattern of rows and columns, the intersection of a row and a column defining a cell. The value displayed in a cell may depend on a calculation based on a user specified formula that in turn depends on the values displayed in other cells. When editing a spreadsheet, the user may want to display the formula for a given cell rather than the value. An audit window is typically used for this purpose. In order to provide the user with more information, the spreadsheet table is provided with the property of selectively displaying the formulae instead of the values in the cells.
