Soft Stopping for System Processors

Soft Stop for a system processor provides a programmer with defined points at which a program is interruptible. These points are defined as attributes of an already existing instruction set and require no additional code points or execution time for implementation. The Soft Stop for a system processor allows existence of a self-modifying code and re-entrant code simultaneously as respective architectural levels through the use of two processors. The figure illustrates an operation of a main store processor (MSP) and a central store processor (CSP) using the Soft Stop function. The exemplary program is allowed to finish a Do Loop before a Stop request is honored.
