Abstract

While plasma display panels are normally operated as an all-points- addressable device, they may be operated in a video mode in which data is entered in a horizontal scan line basis. When updating data operating in a video mode, if a panel line already contains data, then selectively writing new data in the line will result in having all the "on" pels (picture elements) from both the old and the new data. This represents an error condition insofar as the "on" pels from the old data remain "on". If the selective write cycle is followed by a selective erase cycle, this error condition will be corrected with merely a small delay in update time.
