Abstract

The toner used in magnetostylus printing "*" has to be electrically conductive, and if the large toner particles are not filtered out, they can electrically short-circuit adjacent print styli, thus reducing print resolution. This is a system for filtering mono-component printing toners for use with high resolution magnetostylus printing. In the filtering system the unfiltered toner 11 is picked up by a rotating, cylindrical magnetic brush 12 carrying alternating north and south magnetic poles on its surface and propagated (in the opposite direction of rotation from the brush 12) to a printing stylus (bar) 13 where the print voltage is adjusted allowing the nominal-sized particles to deposit on a dielectric surface 14 of receptor drum 18.
