Abstract

Printers are presently positioned with the platen horizontal. Reduction of the floor space required for a printer is obtained by positioning the platen vertically. A rotatable platen 1 is vertically disposed within a fixed fender 2. The fender 2 has an opening 3 to enable a sheet 4 of paper to be fed into a recess 5 in the platen 1 where the sheet 4 of paper is clamped to the platen 1. As the platen 1 rotates, the sheet 4 of paper on the platen 1 passes a second opening 6 in the fender 2 at which printing on the sheet 4 of paper occurs. The platen 1 has its axis skewed at a slight angle to the vertical so that the end of each line of print aligns itself with the beginning of the next line of print on the sheet 4 of paper.
