The present device is directed to bit slice Least-Recently-Used (LRU) logic which is particularly well suited for large-scale integrated (LSI) circuit design. The LRU logic of the present design replaces the 3-input AND gates and the 1-input OR gate of the previous LRU logic circuit which requires 13 transistors. The logic circuit shown in the figure requires only 1 load device and only 6 transistors. Using the bit slice LRU logic circuit of the present device allows a section of logic to be designed once and replicated as many times as necessary The LRU logic of the present design can be used in cache and address translation systems to determine what data should be replaced when it is necessary to replace old data with new data.
