Abstract

The relative sizes of phrases stored in a phrase storage typewriter are indicated visually in a printout so that a user may select the phrase or phrases to be deleted to have additional storage space available. In a phrase storage typewriter, a possible 99 phrases may contain text but only about 7000 bytes are available for phrase storage. When the user of a phrase storage typewriter receives a signal indicating a "near full" state or a "full" state, the user must delete one or more phrases in order to continue creating the present phrase or revising other phrases.
