A technique is described whereby rectangular light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are provided with a convenience snap-in mounting device so as to provide ease of assembly and replacement capabilities. The mounting device eliminates the need for a printed circuit board for mounting the LEDs while enabling the LEDs to be securely held in place. Molded plastic control panel bezel 10, as shown in Fig. 1, incorporates a snap type of holding unit 11 so that LED 12 is easily inserted into the holder 13. Since LED 12 has a shoulder 14, as shown in the side view Fig. 2, a stop 15 is provided on molded bezel 10 to prevent LED 12 from being pushed through panel bezel 10 during assembly. The design eliminates the need to solder and unsolder the LEDs from a printed circuit board, enabling easy replacement of the LEDs.
