Abstract

A power supply circuit includes an output portion whose output voltage is dependent upon the product of the voltage input to the portion and the duty cycle of a switching device. To enable a wide range of input voltages to be used without increasing the voltage stress on the switching device, the power supply circuit includes an input portion whose output voltage is also dependent upon the product of the input voltage and the duty cycle of the switching device, and whose output voltage is used as the input voltage of the output portion of the circuit. Thus the output voltage of the circuit is dependent upon the product of the input voltage and the square of the duty cycle of the switching device. The duty cycle is the ratio of the time on to the sum of the time on and time off.
