Abstract

A feed tape arrangement for feeding relatively large electrical components, such as connector blocks which may be up to five inches in length, is shown in the figures. The arrangement comprises long continuous plastic or cardboard carrier strip 10 with die-cut sprocket feed holes 11 and locator holes 13 with any required embossed recesses 14. The parts 16 are mounted by locating tenons 17 pressed into holes 13. The surface mount solder tails 18 are protected inside recess 14 in the carrier strip 10. By mounting the parts 16 side by side instead of end to end, a much higher density can be obtained. A gap 20 is necessary for pick-up grippers to pick up each part 16 as it is indexed into position. The above arrangement requires a very simple sprocket wheel drive indexed by a stepper motor.
