Abstract

A power plane continuity tester provides a "short/open" test of power laminates. The tester provides for redundancy in the probes and thereby increases test reliability. The iso-border power laminate 2 is shown in Fig. 1. Because ground plane 3 and voltage copper planes 4 are totally encapsulated, two through holes 5 must be drilled in the power laminate 2 to obtain contact between copper planes 3,4 and probes 6 (Fig. 2). Special probes were developed for this tester. The probe 6 includes two spring contacts 7 and 8 (Fig. 2) made from beryllium copper and isolated from each other.
