Abstract

A method is described herein for recognizing cursive handwriting. This system provides a list of choices for each word, thus enabling dictionary search procedures. It also uses less computer resource than an earlier procedure 1. The system derives candidate letter segmentation points, which divide the writing of a word into segments. In obtaining these segmentation points, care is taken to minimize the probability of missing a segmentation point at the expense of obtaining extra segmentation points which are superfluous. The method of obtaining these candidate segmentation points is essentially to reduce to single points the segmentation regions found by another procedure 2.Ù The resulting segments are then processed by the multi-segment procedure of a run-on discrete system.
