Energy Adjustment for Novel Electromagnetic Ram Actuator

The novel electromagnetic ram actuator is described in the European Patent Application 83105444.0. When coil 1 is excited, magnetic operating gaps are formed between the legs of the yoke halves 2, 3, causing the magnetizable bars 4 of the ram 5 to be pulled into them, while ram 5 moves in the arrow-marked direction D. This ram actuator is preferably suitable for impact printers. To adjust the print energy to a predetermined value, a soft- magnetic adjusting element 6 is inserted into a magnetic operating gap 7 which is initially open. The farther the element is inserted into the operating gap in the direction P, the greater the print energy becomes.
