Recently detailed problems with self-study manuals "*" can be addressed and solved by a radically different approach to self-instruction. People trying to learn contemporary computer office equipment by self- study training methods suffer from many problems. The complexities of the training manuals themselves cause confusions and incline learners not to read carefully or completely. Too little help is provided for error detection, diagnosis, and recovery -- and learners make many errors. A concept referred to herein as Guided Exploration cards has been developed as an alternative approach. The cards are more task-oriented than manuals in that each card addresses a particular functional goal that users can understand on the basis of their understanding of office tasks (irrespective of computers).
