This article describes an apparatus for measuring pulse intervals in a pulse train by periodically recording count values from a counter which is cleared each time an input data pulse is provided. The present apparatus is suitable for analyzing and evaluating disk drives and adapters. Fig. 1 shows an overall configuration of the apparatus comprising an n (e.g., 16)-bit counter 10, an n-bit latch 12, a buffer 14, an address counter 16, two synchronizers 18 and 20, and a delay device 22. The counter 10 is continuously advanced by a clock until its clear input becomes active. When an input data pulse is applied, the synchronizer 18 activates the clear input of the counter 10 at the next clock time so that the counter 10 is initialized to measure a pulse interval between the incoming and next data pulses.
