Abstract

The ribbon take-up and supply spools of a ribbon cartridge are locked against movement until the cartridge is installed on a machine such as a typewriter, for example, for use. A ribbon cartridge 1 (Fig. 1) has a take-up spool 2 rotatably supported therein above a supply spool 3 so that the spools 2 and 3 have the same axis of rotation. A ribbon 4 extends from the supply spool 3 exterior of the cartridge 1 and returns into the cartridge 1 on a different level to the take-up spool 2. The take-up spool 2 has a central cylindrical portion 5 extending upwardly through an opening, which is defined by a flange 6 extending downwardly from top surface 7 of the cartridge 1.
