This article describes an adapter for attaching to the Z-axis of a robot. The adapter allows the mounting of single or multiple grippers and provides for adjustable gripper spacing, elevation, spread, and reach. Fig. 1 shows a pictorial view of the adapter. The adapter comprises a gripper mounting plate 1, interconnecting section 2 and a Z-axis adapter 4. A mounting screw (not shown) is used for fastening the adapter onto the Z-axis of a robot (not shown). The various sections of the adapter are hollow and pneumatic tubes identified by numeral 6, used to distribute compressed air to grippers which are mounted at the extremities of the gripper mounting plate. The grippers are mounted by gripper spacer block 3 to the mounting plate. Fig. 2 shows a back-side view of the gripper mounting plate.
