Integrated circuit chips are conventionally mounted with their contact pads directly connected to the terminals on a ceramic or epoxy glass printed circuit board. As circuit-packaging applications require increasing packaging densities, the separation distance between adjacent integrated circuit chips on the printed circuit board decreases. Thus, when engineering or field changes are necessary, it becomes difficult to make discrete wire connections which are to be spliced between the integrated circuit chip pad and the printed circuit board terminal.
