Field-Controlled Character Graphics for Display Station

This field-controlled character graphics design provides a low-cost method of presenting character graphics on a display station with a full set of fixed graphic symbols, and display is accomplished without special host system support beyond the application program. A set of fixed graphic symbols is stored in an extended page space of the display station's character generator ROS (read-only store). The page control or "mode control" of this two-part character generator is accomplished by shift-in or shift-out field-attribute control characters. The control characters are supported by the standard system data stream, resulting in host system support without change to the interface protocol.
