Abstract

An auto parts magazine for robots is disclosed in which a controllable gripper carries two expandable mandrels. One of these mandrels mates with a vacuum gripper fixed to a parts magazine holding a few components in a row to be fed sequentially to the vacuum gripper and placed by releasing vacuum. The other mandrel mates with a feed tool arranged to slide incrementally along the row to feed parts to the vacuum grip per. When the magazine is empty, it is replenished at a remote feeder. In many robot applications several identical parts are required to be assembled in widely spaced positions on the same assembly. This usually requires repeated moves to and from the parts feeders. This disclosure allows a number of parts to be collected in a magazine and deposited in turn in various positions on the assembly. Fig.
