A solderless connection device for interconnecting opposed area array modules eliminates the need for printed circuit cards/boards in which wiring paths/communication are used as the connection between modules with area array I/O points. An elastomeric area array connector 1 (Figs. 1 and 2), consisting of conductive contact I/O points 2 and a multilayer polyimide carrier 3, is positioned between two area array I/O modules 4. A "picture-frame"-type holder/positioner actuator/retainer 5 allows the modules and elastomeric connector to be mechanically aligned and polarized by means of locating pins 6, actuated 8, and retained 7 to make appropriate electrical contact by compressing the elastomeric contact points 2 against corresponding module pads 9.
