Abstract

A basic problem within displays is to provide a picture changing capability with the characteristic of application to a range of products, maximizing the inherent capability of each product, being user friendly and device independent. The Dynamic Segment mechanism provides that the application can declare which parts of a Display List are being changed and instruct a Drawing Engine to take appropriate action. The implementation can then optimize the actions to be proposed to the facilities available. The Drawing Engine control has four commands - Draw, Begin Dynamic Segment Update, End Dynamic Segment Update and Stop Draw. The Dynamic Segment In many implementations the Display List is created as a segmented structure that reflects the applications view of the logical structure of the picture.
