Abstract

It is difficult to dispense liquids in precisely controlled quantities without contamination by the dispensing apparatus. In the system described, this is achieved by controlling the flow of a secondary fluid which in turn exerts pressure on a flexible container of the primary fluid. As shown in the figure, the primary fluid 15 is contained in flexible pouch 1 which is connected to dispensing tube 6. Pouch 1 is surrounded by secondary fluid 3 which fills a pressure canister 2. Canister 2 may also contain a heater 7 along with a suitable temperature monitor and controller 8. Purge valve 4 permits bleeding off any air in canister 2. Agitator 14 permits creating pressure waves in fluid 3 or can physically touch pouch 1 in order to agitate fluid 15.
