Abstract

A hand-operated tool has an outer body that is adapted to be turned by a ratchet mechanism. The outer body has an eccentric longitudinal bore that carries an inner shaft that protrudes beyond the outer body in a screwdriver-like blade. The blade engages a fixed slot in a circuit board, and the outer body is positioned on a cam follower of a mechanism that operates a zero-insertion-force connector. When the outer body is turned through a predetermined angle while the inner shaft is held stationary, it cams the pins of the connectors into engagement with their sockets. At the position of maximum cam height, the pins are driven slightly beyond the operating position, and further rotation of the cam allows the pins to back off in the sockets to the operating position.
