Controls for a signal processor (not shown) provide status and control functions for integrating the elements of the data flow including the arithmetic logic unit (ALU) 3, multiplier 4, and error detection functions 5. Control is provided through a machine control register (MCR) 1 to select various processor options in order to optimize the processing of a specific application. A program status register (PSR) 2 is used to provide status of the process under execution and retain pipeline data relating to multiplier operation which is key to the ability to save and restore the multiplier upon interrupt. The following is a summary of the status and control functions of this signal processor. The control and status is provided by the MCR 1 and the PSR 2.
