Some CRT display adapters make use of a character attribute scheme, in which video highlighting attributes are stored on a per-character basis in a separate attribute buffer. To place a character on the screen requires writing a character code to the character buffer memory and the associated attribute code to the corresponding location in the attribute buffer. This invention allows the accessing of the attribute buffer to take place automatically, in parallel with the accessing of the character buffer. The character buffer (CHAR BUFF) and the attribute buffer (ATTR BUFF) share address and the control signals: chip select (-CS), output enable (-OE) and write enable (-WE).
