Setting Size of Instruction Trace Buffer in Debug Facility

An arrangement is described for use with the Debug Facility (DF) that is described on page 167 which permits the operator to allocate an Instruction Trace Buffer (ITB), of a specific size, when the DF is first loaded. The operator specifies the number of instructions for the DF to allow room for an internal ITB. The DF takes the requested number of instructions and calculates the amount of memory required to be allocated for the ITB. Each instruction location within the ITB requires, for example, 28 bytes. This allows the operator to determine the amount of memory which the DF allocates for the ITB in terms relevant to the operator, namely, instructions.
