Two-Format Display for Trace Buffer of Debug Facility
Original Publication Date: 1985-Jun-01
Included in the Prior Art Database: 2005-Feb-18
An arrangement is described for use with the Debug Facility (DF) described on page 167 which permits the Instruction Trace Buffer (ITB) of the DF to be displayed in either of two formats. One format consists of a window of traced instruction lines each made up of the instruction's Code Segment (CS) and Instruction Pointer(IP) values along with the disassembly of the traced instructions. The other format consists of a window of traced instruction lines, which, in addition to the above, also displays all of the register contents at the time the instruction was placed in the trace buffer. The DF takes 28 bytes of raw data and turns it into a meaningful representation of a traced instruction.
