MR Head With Integrated Equalizer

A multi-element magnetoresistive (MR) head is shown in which equalization of the MR head read signal is accomplished in one embodiment by the adjustment in amplitude and summation of the separate read signals to give the equalized signal. In another embodiment, the MR elements are connected in series so that the equalizer is integrated into the head. A multi-element MR head is shown (Fig. 1) which comprises a series of MR elements MR1, MR2, MR3---MRi each flanked by suitable shields 1. The MR elements produce either a positive or negative read signal (Fig. 2) depending on the connection made to the MR elements.
