The position of an object may be located by interactive triangulation through the use of a concentrated light source, a scanning mirror and a fixed mirror to provide two beams for triangulation with a strong return signal. The optical system to provide a required two beams for triangulation with a strong return signal is shown in the figure. A lamp having a small filament 12 emits light rays which are focused by converging lens 14 and reflected by a 45Πrotating scanning mirror 16 onto a retroreflective surface 18 on the triangulation target.
