A magnetic recording disk file of the type having multiple stacked recording disks and a dedicated servo disk in the stack for providing information to correctly position the data heads to the proper tracks includes an improved arrangement of the servo disk and the servo read heads. In such disk files each movable actuator for positioning the data heads has multiple arms supporting the data heads, the data heads on each arm accessing a corresponding surface of a disk in the stack. One of the arms on the actuator, the servo arm, supports a servo read head which accesses the dedicated servo disk in the stack. In the improved arrangement, the servo arm supports two servo read heads, one located near the disk inside diameter and one near the disk outside diameter.
