When doing any type of high voltage testing, a diagnostic test cycle is usually implemented into the test system to perform a check on the shutdown capability of the power supply under potentially hazardous conditions. This also prevents any circuit and product damage, and insures safe testing methodology. In order to simulate one such breakdown, i.e., an instantaneous load breakdown characterized by a sharp, negative, high frequency spike on the power supply, an electrical arc can be generated in the diagnostic circuit.
