A bipolar static read-only storage (ROS) includes high performance, low power, array organization flexibility, and which consumes minimum silicon area. The ROS is a 114,294-bit, +5-volt, ground-up design with emitter-coupled logic (ECL) internal circuitry. The ROS is able to support two different font sets: 13 x 19 x 256 9 x 16 x 256 7 x 15 x 256 or 9 x 13 x 256 7 x 13 x 256 9 x 16 x 256 The ROS is capable of being reconfigured into either array organization via a single "D" mask level, the same "D" mask level used to personalize the bit patterns in the array. The ROS outputs go to "ZEROS" when addressing outside the physical ROS address space. A SLASH/DASH overstrike capability is provided on the base characters.
