Abstract

A parts-input station system loads parts into a container, weighs the container, scans the container using a bar code scanner, and senses the height of the parts in the container. A processor at the input station formats a message, containing the part number, the bar code number, the part quantity and part description, which is sent to a host computer. The calculated part quantity is announced to the operator at the input station, using a speech synthesizer. The parts-input station system is utilized for manually entering parts into an automated materials-handling system. The figure illustrates the parts-input station system 10 and includes a computer 12, such as a personal computer, including a CRT monitor 14, a light pen 16, and a speech synthesizer 18 included within the housing of the personal computer 12.
