Abstract

During save/restore operations, all data on a disk enclosure is written onto a save media. The restore operation rewrites the data back to the disk enclosure. Verification of the data integrity of the save and restore operations is done by first sequencing the disk enclosure and then comparing the information written by the sequencing with the expected information. As represented by the flowchart, a test process was developed to verify the integrity of the save and restore process. Each sector on an IBM System/38 is comprised of a header and of data with an associated physical address which describes the sector location on the disk enclosure. The test process has two parts. First, the associated physical address is written into the header area and data area of each sector on the disk enclosure.
