Push/Pull Switchable Tractor Mechanism

A forms tractor mechanism for a printer is operable in either one of two operation modes, i.e., push and pull modes. The mode change is easily accomplished by manually operating a lever. Fig. 1 shows a mechanism including a tractor 14. A drive gear 2 is rotated counterclockwise by a motor (not shown). The rotation of the gear 2 causes the rotation of a platen 1 via gears 3 and 4. The tractor 14 is set in the pull mode by positioning a lever 12, as depicted by a solid line, wherein a epicyclic gear 6 associated with a tractor gear 7 is caused to engage with the gear 4 by means of arms 9 and 10 connected to the lever 12.
