Abstract

Using a storage large enough to contain the information presented on a plasma display panel, the plasma panel can operate in a video refresh mode. All the data on a horizontal line is written simultaneously in one cycle rather than serially in a horizontal scan, such as a cathode ray tube display. This means that the many pels (picture elements) on the line cannot be time discriminated; however, with the panel content in storage, test data can be written on the line. For light-pen detection, if one half of a line known to contain the desired location and over which the light pen is placed is written as a sequence of 1's, a response signal will indicate the light-pen position falls within this half line. Whichever half line contains the light-pen location has one half of its pels lit and the above determination again made.
