Method to Install a Virtual Resource Manager Control Program

A method is described for installing a Virtual Resource Manager on a variety of systems having different hardware configurations without the operator having to enter this information. The hardware attached in the system, i.e., the keyboard, display, disk, and diskette, is identified by a series of batch programs. Once the hardware is defined, any additional information for that particular device, e.g., disk size or geometry, is obtained with the help of the device, when necessary, by incorporating information at the time of manufacture that further defines the device characteristics. The various device drivers which are part of the control program are then dynamically bound to the hardware during the initial program load and initialization phase.
