This article describes a fault-indicating module which produces a hard copy coded message that indicates the fault condition leading to card or machine failure. The module can be used again after repair by replacing the thermally sensitive copy medium with new medium. The purpose of this module is to aid service and repair personnel by providing them with a permanent record of the fault conditions leading to machine shutdown or failure. Essentially, the device (Fig. 1) includes a fault-indicating module coupled to a storage device. Predefined codes that would describe the fault conditions are written from the storage means during machine failure. The codes are used to activate a switching matrix to select the proper codes within the fault- indicating module.
