This article describes a new process for automatically generating images. In the apparatus for automatically sorting ceramic modules described in European Patent 80430030.9, it is necessary to generate a virtual electronic image of 2048 x 2048 pixels. To save room in the memory, the data are packed as follows: - A word represents the number of successive blank or black pixels within a line. This is called a packed data. - Each line is formed by a group of words delimited by a particular clock word. The packed words are coded as follows: A word is comprised of 16 bits (four hexadecimal digits) arranged as follows: (Image Omitted) The three last digits represent the number of blanks or blacks obtained during the crossing of the metallized pattern deposited onto the module ceramic substrate.
