This article describes a manufacturing tool which will improve the method of installing guided card rails by providing the positioning accuracy required for proper card retention. The tool is a simple stepped gage which defines the nominal location of the top surface of the guide rail 1 relative to the card plug side surface of the board 2. Affixed to the gage is a double latch system 3, 4 which is spring loaded 5 allowing attachment to the guide rail. A single lever point for actuation is provided as an integral part of the top latch. In use, a pair of tools is used, one at each end of the guide rail. After the tools have been latched to the guide rail, the assembler places the guide rail in the electronic gate 7, fastening the screws with flat washers 8 that have been partially screwed into the mounting surfaces.
