A multiprocessing (MP) system can be switched between the multiprocessor (MP) and uniprocessor (PP) modes of operations either by a command from the system console or by altering a PP/MP panel switch. When the PP/MP panel switch is actuated, it sets a bit of a monitoring and system support adapter (MSSA) Control Register. When the switch is in PP position, this bit is set to zero. When it is in MP position, the bit is set to one. This bit controls the operating mode of the system. The following commands can be issued through the console to switch the operating mode without altering the PP/MP panel switch. The operator enters a special command to the system console. This command is decoded by the service processor.
