The implementation of SQL/DS (Data System) in a VM environment allows many users to access a common data base, via the SQL/DS Service Machine that uses a control block structure (called an agent structure) which acts as a task structure for servicing user requests. To alleviate storage utilization and performance, the concept of pseudo-agents was implemented to allow multiple concurrent users to share the SQL/DS resources (agent structures). A pseudo agent consists of two control blocks: one (VMQ) maintains the status of a given user and the other (VMCBLOCK) is used to perform the IUCV (inter-user communications vehicle) communications for that user. Each user that "connects" to the SQL/DS Service Machine (via IUCV CONNECT) will be allocated to a pseudo-agent.
