Diskette drives utilize a diskette in which the medium is enclosed in a soft jacket. By enclosing the medium in a hard jacket, additional diskette durability can be gained. The mechanism shown herein serves to apply cleaning pad pressure for a soft jacket diskette and serves as an ejector to assist the unload operation for a hard jacket diskette. Also, for a soft-jacketed diskette, pads, that apply pressure to the jacket to clean the medium, help establish the disk elevation enhancing the head/disk interface. When a hard-jacketed diskette is inserted into the drive, ejector arm 10 is moved from position "A" to position "C". The ejector mechanism is latched into the second detent, storing energy in the torsion spring 12 (Figs. 1 and 2).
