This article describes an image processing system in which an originally transmitted compressed image to a terminal unit is maintained after image process operations by fetching the compressed image for each image process operation, by decompressing the fetched compressed image, and by processing the decompressed image. The history of the image process operations is maintained by storing commands used in the image process operations. In the existent system, the image of one document page is compressed by a compression algorithm in a host unit. The compressed image is transmitted from the host unit to a terminal unit, and decompressed by a decompression algorithm. The decompressed image or reproduced original image is stored in a large size working memory in the terminal unit.
