Abstract

A technique is described whereby a channel analysis and timing testing (CATT) device is used to simulate and to test the IBM Series/1 input/ output (I/O) channel. The CATT is designed to analyze the timing specifications and status requirements for the IBM Series/1 I/O channel, so as to simulate the interconnection to external I/O devices. The IBM Series/1 architecture is designed so as to provide interactive, i.e., handshaking, capability between the central processing unit and I/O devices connected to the I/O channel of the IBM Series/1. Delay and time-out functions are built into the architecture to assure proper operation of both the IBM Series/1 and the connected I/O device. The testing and analyzing device, described herein, simulates the timing and delay functions so that rapid testing of the channel can take place.
