Abstract

This apparatus eliminates time-consuming, uneven, hand wrapping of cable. In the machine and method illustrated, cable 1 is driven by feed rollers through a central opening of a revolving plate 2 holding a roll of adhesive-backed tape 3 backed by a release tape 4. Release tape 4 is stripped from tape 3, and then tape 3 is fed through guides 5 set at particular angles, and secured to cable 1 by its adhesive side, as shown at 6. Revolving plate 2 driven by pinion 7 which causes rotation of plate 2 around cable 1, thereby winding tape 3 onto cable 1 and causing clockwise rotation of spool 8. Spool 8 drives belt 9, thereby driving release tape take-up spool 10. Tape 3 is secured to cable 1 by passing between guide pressure rollers 11. Cable 1 emerges through top guide wheels 12 securely wrapped.
