Abstract

This article discloses a method of personal identification number (PIN) verification at a point-of-sale (POS) terminal, wherein the POS terminal is in communication with an acquiring bank instead of the card- issuing bank of the cardholder. A method of PIN verification wherein the POS terminal is in communication with the card issuing bank is briefly described in another article on pages 1109-1122. The diagram shows the customer-retailer-acquiring bank relationship in which the method of PIN verification could be useful. The detailed steps of PIN verification are as follows: 1.
